WHY TESTING FOR ATHLETES IS SO IMPORTANT
You can't change what you don't measure.
For many athletes, what to eat and how to supplement is a guessing game. Many follow the latest trends, or the next best supplement on the market. But every athlete is biochemically unique, and the demands placed on the body of an athlete affect personal micronutrient need. After uncovering your body's deficiencies and imbalances at the cellular level, you can better direct your FUELING plan to meet your body's specific needs.
Uncover your micros to better direct your macros.

Deficiencies and imbalances in micronutrients - vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants - can hold you back from your goals. Even with a perfect diet, deficiencies often exist. Most importantly, micronutrients work synergistically, with the status of one affecting the function of another. For example, Vitamin A is better absorbed in the presence of oleic acid. Vitamin D and calcium only protect bones when both are present, and each are also influenced by magnesium and VItamin K status which is often depleted in athletes. Too much zinc can deplete copper. Nutrients needs to be balanced for the body to function optimally. Without a targeted approach, you may be causing more harm than good with certain supplements that are marketed to athletes.
Only put your money where your cells need it most.

We understand there are many companies now selling wellness testing for athletes, but their tests only analyze what's in the blood serum. At MicroFUEL, we understand it's what getting into the cells that really matters, so we set out to create a two-tiered test that tells you just that:
First, we look inside the blood serum for a snapshot of what's going on inside the body at the time of the blood draw. We measure levels of nutrients inside the blood serum, and also look at markers such as size and numbers of specific cells that may signal subtle sub-clinical nutrient deficiencies that routine testing does not detect. Blood serum also tells us hydration status, immune function, protein need, digestive status, and give us insights into if they body is struggling.

Second, we employ a laboratory that uses patented technology to measure specific nutrient deficiencies and imbalances within your blood cells. The body has a very tight regulatory process for what it keeps in the blood, thus serum blood testing does not provide you with information regarding what is actually getting inside your cells, where it matters most. Serum blood test results also are affected by dietary intake or training status. Our intracellular testing measures giving a complete picture of how well your body absorbs and utilizes each nutrient within the cells. Additionally, blood cells have an average 4 month life span, and thus provide a history rather than a snapshot of nutrient intake. Blood testing can be done at any point in your training schedule.

Maximizing glycogen sparing and energy production are key to endurance sports. Inside the cells, the mitochondria are responsible for and are dependent on key nutrients that promote proper glucose and fatty acid utilization and glycogen storage. The mitochondria also need vast amounts of micronutrients to power the muscles, nerves and heart during intense or long bouts of exercise. A deficiency of one micronutrient can greatly affect efficiency at which the mitochondria fuel the muscles, resulting in decreased endurance or strength. Nutrients like carnitine, co-enzyme Q10, magnesium and B vitamins directly impact energy pathways in the mitochondria. Correcting deficiencies and imbalances greatly impact how energy is transferred to working muscles.

Soreness, fatigue and injury means time away from training. The speed at which muscles recover is largely dependent on protein availability and nutrient reserves so that the body has the building blocks it needs to repair and rebuild. Additionally, having adequate amounts of antioxidants available minimizes oxidative stress generated by physical activity. Maximizing antioxidant status in athletes is critical in order to heal post-workout damage and mitigate future health concerns. Additionally, ensuring adequate minerals and co-factors are available for optimal bone and connective tissue health keeps potential injuries at bay.

THE MICROFUEL ADVANTAGE
MicroNutrient Testing Allows You To:
CUSTOMIZE DIET
Intensity and duration of training impact your need for micronutrients.
Uncovering your micros better directs your macros.

ENHANCE PERFORMANCE
Cells need large amounts of micronutrients in order to provide power to the muscles and heart.
Any deficiency can compromise optimal endurance, power and strength.

SPEED RECOVERY
The speed at which muscles repair and your body recovers is largely dependent on your body's
nutritional reserve of needed raw materials.

SAVE MONEY
Nutrient needs for athletes often cannot be met with diet alone.
Only put your money where your cells need it most.

IMPROVE GENERAL HEALTH
Sickness means time away from training.
Deficiencies in micronutrients impact immune function and cellular repair mechanisms.
Left unchecked, too much oxidative stress can increase risk of certain diseases.

ENSURE BONE AND JOINT STRENGTH
Maximizing nutrient levels is key to long term health of joints, bones and body systems.
